As narrated by Amratullah Kazir, a graduate of mass communication from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, who recently joined HumAngle as a reporting intern.

Hello there,

I’m Amrah, and I’m still finding my pace here at HumAngle Media!

You know, that shy awkwardness one is bound to experience once introduced to a new space? The foreign faces and lots of names you should remember but probably won’t after the first general introduction? Well, at least you understand my current position — I mean this in the best way possible. ;)

I started at HumAngle Media officially on Monday, April 15. Yup, it’s my second day here and I already have so much to say. Before we jump in, I have to mention how completely impressed I am with the work environment.

The previous week, I came in for my induction, where I met the HR officer, Ms. Khadija, and oh, what a professional she was. Right off the bat, anyone could tell that this place values its staff. There is a sanctuary, which is not just for the victims of harsh realities but also serves as a safe space for the folks that keep it running.

Ms. Khadija walked me through the various principles, rules, standards and expectations at HumAngle Media. She did it with such expert ease it would be difficult not to marvel. I couldn’t help but think to myself, “Is everyone this good here? Could I also become such an expert here?”

It’s my second day at HumAngle, but I’ve already learned so much about the staff. I’ve found that Sabiqah is an amazing podcaster, and Hauwa really deserves the role of Managing Editor. Rolake has a fun writing style from two of her articles I’ve read, and Al’amin is very dedicated to his work.

Everything is so intricately thought out here. the plants have names on them for each person; I think it’s such a cute little tradition, our own little office babies. The office has been strategically designed to address the immediate needs of each staff member and intern and is equipped with a lunch room, prayer room, and even a coffee machine. (I’ve barely recovered from my coffee addiction. #HappyToIndulge.)

I noticed a bookshelf by the entrance carrying a range of books on development, history, fiction, self-improvement, and so on for the curious humans of HumAngle.

Amrah by the bookshelf. Again, she wasn’t just pretending to read for this picture — we promise.

It’s my second day at HumAngle, and I just met with the most humble leader ever. Mr. Ahmad has such a welcoming spirit; I think I’ll do really well here. I am determined to contribute as much value as I can to the cause of this company. Even though I’m not quite sure where I fit in yet or what my assigned job will be, I look forward to the unending opportunities this place has to offer, and I know I’ll be more equipped than I entered each day.

More to come from Amrah, another human at HumAngle.
